(Appsa) agricultural productivity programme for southern africa
The Agricultural Productivity Programme for Southern Africa (APPSA) is a regional project supported by separate World Bank (WB) - IDA credits. The project originally started with three countries (Malawi, Mozambique and Zambia), and it has now extended to Lesotho and Angola.
The Department of Agriculture Research (DAR) is one of the five technical departments of the ministry of Agriculture and Food Security (MAFS). DAR is mandated to:
Generate, adapt and transfer agricultural technologies and scientific knowledge,
To provide relevant services for both subsistence and commercial farmers and other stake-holders for sustainable development of agriculture,
while preserving the natural resource base- accordance with national agricultural development policies and strategies. DAR’s mandate covers crops, livestock, natural resources, food technology, seed development, agricultural engineering and farming system research and extension coordination.
